During the celebrations of the Bicentennial of the Battle of Lake Erie, the famous quote from Commodore Perry "Don't Give up the Ship" was on flags, on t-shirts, coffee mugs, etc. This fact inspired him to create "Don't Give up the Beer" which was a humorous twist on that famous saying. This flag design is bordered by the famous wineries located up on the Lake Erie Islands and shores.
